I begin stacking shapes and marking my way around the canvas with my favourite colours repeating over several studio sessions. I could see the elongated sections start to resemble the basalt columns or pillars of rock formations that I had been so awestruck with on a recent trip to Iceland. A natural defence system similar to the man-made palisaded structures of enclosure we were now forced to endure.
